HB1780 Summary

• Extends the summative evaluation requirement for teachers from every 3 school years to every 5 school years for teachers not in a specified status under the Teacher Excellence and Support System

• Requires teachers in non-evaluation years to focus on elements of their professional learning plan approved by their evaluator to improve teaching practices

• Allows teachers with evaluator approval to collaborate with teacher teams on shared plans benefiting the school, content area, or grade level, or conduct self-directed research during non-evaluation years

• Extends the period during which schools may conduct lesser-scope evaluations from 2 years to 4 years, using relevant portions of the evaluation framework and rubrics aligned with the teacher's professional growth plan
