AR HJR1026

Abolishes the office of Lieutenant Governor effective January 1, 2019, with no Lieutenant Governor to be elected at the 2018 general election.

Makes the Secretary of State the successor to the Governor in case of vacancy, death, removal, or disability of the Governor.

Allows the Governor to designate the Secretary of State to act as Governor when the Governor is absent from the State.

Establishes succession line where President of the Senate acts as Governor if Secretary of State is unable, and Speaker of the House acts as Governor if both Secretary of State and President of Senate are unable.

Requires a special election to fill any vacancy in the office of Secretary of State that occurs when the Secretary of State assumes the Governorship, unless the vacancy occurs within 6 months of the next general election.
