P.E.O. was founded on January 21, 1869, by 7 students at Iowa Wesleyan College and has grown to nearly 250,000 members with over 6,000 chapters across all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and 6 Canadian provinces

P.E.O. has awarded more than $143.6 million in Educational Loan Funds, $29 million in International Peace Scholarships, $43 million in Continuing Education grants, $16 million in Scholar Awards, and $2.6 million in STAR Scholarships
