Auxiliary law enforcement officers certified by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training and approved by the county sheriff are deemed certified law enforcement officers for purposes of concealed handgun licensing exemptions.

Auxiliary law enforcement officers and local detention facility employees are exempt from concealed handgun licensing requirements if they have completed minimum training requirements and possess written authorization from their appointing chief of police or county sheriff.

Written authorization for exemption must be carried on the person and produced upon demand by law enforcement officers or owners/operators of prohibited locations.

Appointing law enforcement agencies must provide at least 100 hours of commission-approved training including a firearms qualification course equivalent to full-time officer requirements before any auxiliary officer may carry arms.

Auxiliary law enforcement officers are not required to requalify for firearms beyond what full-time officers must complete while remaining appointed as auxiliary officers.
