HB 1621 Summary

• Annual school elections shall be held on the date of the preferential primary election in even-numbered years, the date that would be the preferential primary in odd-numbered years if a general election were held, or the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November, with school districts choosing which date by the filing period deadline.

• School districts may print annual school election issues on the same ballot as preferential primary or general election ballots when held in November of even-numbered years.

• Candidate filing deadlines reduced from 100 days to 30 days before the annual school election filing deadline for schools holding elections concurrently with primary or general elections, and ballot order drawing moved from 67 days to 72 days before the election.

• Runoff elections for concurrent school elections shall be held on the date designated for the general primary election or general runoff election, whichever applies, rather than three weeks after the original election.

• Act becomes effective January 1, 2018.
