AR HB1754

Amends Arkansas Code § 27-51-305 to allow vehicles equipped with driver-assistive truck platooning systems to follow other vehicles closer than the standard 200-foot distance requirement for motor trucks outside business and residence districts.

Defines "driver-assistive truck platooning system" as technology integrating sensor arrays, wireless communication, vehicle controls, and specialized software to synchronize acceleration and braking between two or more vehicles while maintaining each vehicle's steering control and systems monitoring.

Adds new section 27-51-1408 requiring persons operating driver-assistive truck platooning systems to file a plan for general platoon operations with the State Highway Commission.

Permits operation of platooning systems upon either explicit commission approval of the filed plan or automatically 45 days after submission if the plan has not been rejected.
