Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, the first day of school shall be on or after the Tuesday of the week in which Labor Day is observed, with school districts determining the specific date.

Labor Day shall be observed as a school holiday statewide, and school shall not be held on that date.

The Department of Education may grant waivers allowing school districts to begin earlier or later if material and substantial reasons exist, such as contagious disease outbreaks, inclement weather, or other acts of God.

The school year shall not extend beyond the Friday before Memorial Day, which shall be a holiday in all school districts.

The week after Memorial Day may be used as a make-up day with departmental approval if a district has unavoidably lost more than five scheduled days due to contagious disease outbreaks, inclement weather, or acts of God.
