Miss Savvy Janine Shields, a native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was selected as Miss America 2017 in September 2016 for her confidence, poise, and talent.

Miss Shields received a $50,000 scholarship to complete her education at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where she is a senior majoring in Art with a minor in Business.

She will promote her platform "Eat Better, Live Better" during her year of service and will serve as the National Goodwill Ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

As Miss America, Miss Shields has already traveled over 100,000 miles, spoken to approximately 9,000 students, visited 12 schools, and visited 7 hospitals.

The House of Representatives commends Miss Shields on her service to Arkansas and the United States and her selection as Miss America 2017.
