SB535 Summary

• Repeals Uncodified Acts 1883, No. 61 establishing dual judicial districts in Craighead County (Jonesboro District and Lake City District)

• Circuit, Chancery, and Probate Courts continue at Jonesboro as county seat with same number of sessions held in Lake City at times designated by the Circuit Judge of the Second Judicial District

• Citizens of each district may only serve on juries in their own district; residents of one district cannot be sued in the other district except through criminal process and witness subpoenas

• County officers (Sheriff, Clerk, Treasurer, Probate Judge) serve both districts with one officer residing in each district; Clerk maintains separate offices and financial records for each district

• Repeals Uncodified Acts 2003, No. 667 regarding advisory ballot elections; establishes that balloting results for deputy sheriff and deputy circuit clerk candidates in the Eastern District shall be advisory to the elected county officials
