SB730 - Arkansas Barber Law Amendments

• Prohibits the unauthorized use of barber poles and similar symbols that would mislead the public into believing a business employs licensed barbers when it does not

• Adds jails, prisons, and penitentiaries to the list of entities exempt from barber licensing requirements

• Establishes distinctions between secondary and postsecondary barber schools with different admission requirements (8th grade completion vs. high school diploma)

• Creates teacher manager instructor (TMI) certification category for barbers who meet additional training requirements and wish to teach, including 600 hours of postgraduate instruction

• Expands reciprocity provisions for barbers licensed in other states and adds provisions allowing barbers with 80 years of age to obtain lifetime personal licenses
