Designates May 2017 as Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month in Arkansas.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 people in the United States and more than 250 in Arkansas, caused by a defective gene that produces abnormally thick mucus affecting the lungs and pancreas.

Median survival age for persons with CF is 41 years, with approximately 1,000 new cases diagnosed annually and nearly 50% of the CF population being 18 years or older.

Arkansas has 2 world-class treatment centers specializing in CF diagnosis and care, with early diagnosis and access to innovative treatments identified as critical components for improving patient outcomes.

Upon adoption, the Senate will provide an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation by the Secretary of the Senate.
