Students may possess and use FDA-approved topical sunscreen on school property and at school-related events without written authorization from a parent, legal guardian, or healthcare professional.

School personnel may assist students in applying sunscreen with parental or guardian permission, but are not required to do so.

Schools and school personnel are not held liable or granted immunity under this section.

The Division of Youth Services of the Department of Human Services is exempt from this provision.

Legislative findings establish that skin cancer is preventable through sun protection measures and cite CDC recommendations for SPF 15 or higher sunscreen use.
