HB 1299 Summary

• Amends Arkansas Code § 14-53-108 to add cancer leave provisions for municipal firefighters in cities of the first and second class.

• Firefighters who have completed five (5) years of service and are diagnosed with a cancer type listed in § 21-5-705(a)(3)(A)(i) are entitled to a minimum of 2,912 hours of cancer leave.

• Makes technical corrections to existing sick leave provisions, including clarifying that municipalities cannot reduce sick leave below 20 working days per year or the rate in effect on January 1, 2005.

• Clarifies that sick leave cannot be charged for days a firefighter is not scheduled to work during periods of sickness, illness, or injury.
