Former members of the General Assembly are prohibited from registering as a lobbyist for two years after their term expires under Arkansas Code § 21-8-601 et seq.

Former members are prohibited from entering employment as director of an educational cooperative under The Public School Educational Cooperative Act of 1981 or as director of an area agency on aging for two years after their term expires.

The two-year restriction applies to persons elected or reelected to the General Assembly on or after November 6, 2018, except the lobbyist restriction applies to those elected on or after November 4, 2014.

The amendment modifies Arkansas Constitution Article 19, § 29 and Arkansas Code § 21-1-402 to codify these post-service employment restrictions for former legislators.

The act is declared an emergency and becomes effective upon gubernatorial approval, expiration of the veto period, or veto override.
