Public school districts must partner with local law enforcement agencies to enforce Arkansas Code § 27-51-1004, which prohibits passing a stopped school bus.

During the second full week in February and the third full week in August each year, partnered law enforcement agencies shall assign officers to follow school buses and observe compliance with passing laws.

Law enforcement agencies must report their observations and enforcement actions to the Department of Arkansas State Police within two weeks of conducting the enforcement activities.

Law enforcement officers assigned to follow school buses who fail to comply with this section must attend a school bus driver in-service training course conducted by the Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation within one year of the enforcement report.
