AR HB1822

Amends Arkansas Code § 27-51-1410(c)(3) to require autonomous and fully autonomous vehicles to comply with traffic and safety laws, including safe negotiation of railroad crossings, unless the Arkansas Department of Transportation grants an exemption.

Requires the Arkansas Department of Transportation to consult with railroad companies operating in the state when considering exemptions that affect autonomous vehicle operation at railroad crossings.

Requires fully autonomous vehicles to achieve a reasonably safe state if automated driving system failure occurs and to meet motor vehicle accident requirements under §§ 27-53-101, 27-53-102, and 27-53-105.

Declares an emergency based on concerns that autonomous vehicles may have issues negotiating railroad crossings without an exemption, necessitating coordination between railroad companies and the Department of Transportation.

Effective immediately upon Governor approval, expiration of veto period, or veto override by both houses.
