Program officially began in April 2015 with the concept originating in November 2014, designed to benefit veterans in the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System Community Living Center

Provides therapeutic benefits including improved motor control, increased self-esteem and self-confidence, enhanced attention span, and ability to follow instructions through wood lathe pen turning activities

Program has produced over 1000 pens and 3000 total items (including key rings, bottle stoppers, and ornaments) with 750 veterans participating, averages 15 completed items per week, and trained 25 veterans as woodturning hobbyists

Operates with 9 lathes and is 100% donor-supported through partnerships with businesses, Ozark Woodturners club, Central Arkansas Pen Turners, and over 20 volunteers

House of Representatives recognizes the program and directs the Chief Clerk to transmit a copy of the resolution to Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System at 2200 Fort Roots Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72114
