AR SB106

Amends Arkansas Code § 12-27-143 to allow the Director of the Department of Correction to award a service weapon to a surviving child of a retiring or deceased employee with at least 20 years of service when no surviving spouse exists.

Surviving child recipient must be eligible under applicable state and federal laws to possess a firearm.

If multiple surviving children exist, the service weapon may be awarded to the oldest eligible child.

If the oldest surviving child is ineligible to possess a firearm, the weapon may be awarded to the next-oldest surviving child who meets eligibility requirements.
