City or town councils with mayor-council form of government may determine by resolution whether to request county party committees to conduct party primaries for municipal offices.

The resolution must be passed before January 1 of the election year and remains in effect for subsequent elections unless revoked by the council.

When a resolution is adopted in the affirmative, the city clerk or recorder must mail a certified copy to county and state party committee chairs.

Candidates nominated through political primaries must be certified by county party committees to the county board of election commissioners and placed on the general election ballot.
