Deputy coroners hired after January 1, 2020 must complete required training and obtain a certificate under Arkansas Code § 14-15-308 or present a certificate from the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators within one year of employment.

Deputy coroners who fail to obtain certification shall not continue employment or activity as a deputy coroner, including signing death certificates or assisting in death investigations.

Within one year of hiring a deputy coroner, the coroner must provide the county judge with the deputy's name, address, employment start date, and copy of their certification.

Deputy coroners already employed as of January 1, 2020 must comply with training requirements by January 1, 2021, or face termination and prohibition from coroner duties.
