Insurance companies and health providers in Arkansas must offer coverage for screening mammography and breast ultrasound as essential health benefits for diagnosis of breast disease and evaluation of dense breast tissue.

Baseline mammograms must be covered for women ages 35-40, and annual mammograms for women age 40 and older.

Comprehensive breast ultrasound screening is covered when a mammogram shows dense breast tissue and a healthcare provider or radiologist determines it is medically necessary.

Screening mammography coverage (including digital breast tomosynthesis) cannot reduce coverage for diagnostic mammograms or ultrasounds recommended by a physician.

Fully insured large group insurers must also provide optional screening mammography and breast ultrasound benefits, with specific exclusions for accident, disability, liability, workers' compensation, and limited-scope dental or vision coverage.
