Public school districts may deduct professional membership dues from teacher and classified employee salaries upon written request, with deductions transmitted to the designated organization.

Public school districts are prohibited from using public funds to pay membership dues to any teacher's, classified employee's, or school board member's professional organization that uses public funds to directly or indirectly engage in lobbying.

Employees may request deductions as a lump sum or spread over the school year, and all requests must bear the manual signature of the employee.

Deduction requests must be filed with the employee's contract and are subject to audit by Arkansas Legislative Audit.

"Classified employee" means any person employed by a school district under written annual contract without a required teaching license, and "teacher" includes superintendents and assistant superintendents holding a state license in teaching, instructional, supervisory, administrative, or educational capacity.
