School board members elected for initial or noncontinuous terms must complete 9 hours of training by December 31 of the year following their election, including mandatory training on reading audit reports and school safety and student discipline.

Superintendents must present annual training hour reports to the board in January using a standardized table format showing each member's training hours received, carried forward hours, totals, and required hours.

Board members who fail to meet training requirements receive 30 days from the January board meeting to complete deficient hours and are suspended from official business (except training) until compliant.

Board members who fail to cure training deficiencies within the 30-day period are removed from office unless the failure was due to military service or serious medical condition documented by physician.

School safety and student discipline training must be completed only once by each board member.
