Pharmacy technicians may administer vaccines and immunizations to persons three (3) years of age or older when delegated to do so by a supervising pharmacist, but may not administer other medications.

The Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy retains authority to establish rules defining minimum qualifications for pharmacy technicians, the ratio of technicians to supervising pharmacists, and the scope of duties and procedures.

The pharmacist-in-charge and supervising pharmacist remain responsible for the conduct of pharmacy technicians and must ensure they do not perform any act involving independent judgment.

Pharmacy products prepared by pharmacy technicians must be verified for accuracy by the supervising pharmacist before patient use, with documentation required.

Use of pharmacy technicians in unauthorized ways constitutes unprofessional conduct by the pharmacist-in-charge and supervising pharmacist; hospital pharmacy technicians remain governed by the Hospital Pharmacies Act.
