AR HB1265

Amends Arkansas Code § 27-51-1004 to clarify that operators must bring vehicles to a complete stop "not less than thirty feet" before reaching a stopped school bus with alternating red warning lights displaying for passenger loading or unloading.

Expands the definition of violations to include failures to comply with school bus stopping requirements on public roads, private property open to the public, and K-12 school property (driveways, parking lots).

Creates a Class A misdemeanor penalty for operators who violate school bus stopping requirements while demonstrating reckless disregard for the safety of school bus passengers.

Maintains existing misdemeanor penalties of $250 to $1,000 fine or up to 90 days jail time for general school bus violations under § 27-51-1001.

References amended § 27-51-1004(c)(d) in the penalty section to distinguish between standard violations and aggravated violations with reckless disregard.
