AR HB1274

Amends Arkansas Code § 24-4-101(17)(B) to allow persons serving as volunteer firefighters or volunteer police officers in a separate position to also be members of the Arkansas Public Employees' Retirement System while employed in a covered position.

Permits persons with dual full-time employment in separate positions covered by the Arkansas Public Employees' Retirement System and the Arkansas Local Police and Fire Retirement System to become members of both systems from July 1, 2001 forward.

Excludes from the definition of "employees" members of the General Assembly and those participating in local firemen's relief and pension funds solely because of volunteer firefighter status.

Allows members purchasing prior service credit to pay employee and employer contributions at the rate and compensation that would have applied during the service period, plus regular interest computed from the date of service to payment.

Bill was approved April 13, 2021 and became Act 687 of the Regular Session.
