Beginning January 1, 2022, persons, local governments, and state agencies are prohibited from discharging Class B firefighting foam containing intentionally added PFAS chemicals for training purposes in foam training facilities.

Beginning January 1, 2022, discharge of Class B firefighting foam containing intentionally added PFAS chemicals for testing purposes in testing facilities is prohibited unless required by law or ordinance and the facility implements containment, treatment, and disposal measures to prevent environmental release.

The prohibition does not apply to manufacture, sale, or distribution of PFAS-containing firefighting foam, or to discharge of such foam during emergency firefighting or fire prevention operations.

Firefighting training must use nonfluorinated training foams or other nonfluorinated surrogates and be conducted under conditions allowing for collection of spent foam.
