HB1700 Summary

• Requires the Division of Higher Education to annually collect and compile information on in-demand jobs with starting salaries, college costs, student loan debt, graduation rates, and completion rates for apprenticeships and career/technical programs.

• Mandates the Division of Higher Education partner with the Ready for Life Initiative to create a searchable database allowing students to select specific majors and colleges to view outcomes including graduation rates, average salaries, debt levels, and retention rates.

• Requires the database to display a standardized overview statement showing outcomes for every 100 students in a selected major, including graduation rates, job placement rates, average starting salaries, and typical debt accumulated.

• Directs the Department of Education to annually publish and distribute to middle and high school students comparisons of the top 50 four-year degree majors by salary, top 20 career/technical programs by salary, and top 25 in-demand jobs with starting salaries and education requirements.

• Effective date of July 1, 2022 for all requirements.
