Receiving districts that annexed an affected district through voluntary administrative annexation must notify all contiguous public school districts at least 1 year before closing any campus that was part of the affected district.

Affected districts must have resulted from a voluntary administrative annexation that occurred no more than 20 years prior.

Contiguous public school districts may notify the receiving district of interest in accepting the affected district to keep the public school campus open.

Contiguous public school districts may petition the state board to reverse the previous voluntary administrative annexation and consolidate the affected district into their own district.

Petitions must include evidence of how the contiguous district will serve affected district students and proof that consolidation will not cause fiscal hardship to either the contiguous district or the affected district.
