HB1843 Summary

• Allows individuals with at least 5 years of active law enforcement or correctional employee experience to become voice stress examiners, in addition to those holding a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

• Exempts certified law enforcement officers and correctional employees who are full-time employees and using the license solely for employment purposes from paying licensing fees.

• Adds two new grounds for denying, suspending, or revoking licenses: arrest or indictment for felony, Class A misdemeanor, crime of violence, moral turpitude, or comparable offense; and failure to discuss how voice stress analysis exam results will be used with the subject.

• Permits certified law enforcement officers or correctional employees employed full-time to conduct voice stress analysis examinations from legally recorded conversations (in-person or by telephone) rather than only in-person examinations.

• Exempts full-time law enforcement and correctional employees applying for licensure for employment purposes from background check requirements.
