AR HB1863

Creates the Public School ADA Compliance Committee composed of 6 members from the Building Authority Division, Division of Public School Academic Facilities and Transportation, State Fire Marshall Office, Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, and Arkansas Public School Resource Center, Inc.

Requires all public school districts to include in their facilities master plans by February 1, 2024 an assessment of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, with emphasis on buildings constructed before 2004, and a transition plan for necessary facility changes.

Requires each open-enrollment public charter school to submit by February 1, 2024 an assessment of ADA compliance for their facilities and a transition plan for necessary changes, with the same emphasis on pre-2004 buildings.

Directs the committee to establish guidelines for public school districts and charter schools to conduct ADA compliance assessments and provide an online professional learning course by May 1, 2022.
