SB 204 Summary

• House Committee on Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs and Senate Interim Committee on Children and Youth shall conduct a joint study of best practices for reducing the number of children in foster care

• Study shall include assessment of current foster care numbers, examination of state's current practices and their efficacy, review of methods used by other states, and formulation of a plan to implement best practices with increased funding, education, and support

• Department of Human Services must submit a report within 60 days detailing the number of children in foster care and current state practices to reduce that number

• Joint committees shall meet at least once every two months and must submit a final written report with findings and recommended draft legislation to the Legislative Council by December 1, 2022

• Committees may contract with outside consultants if necessary to assist with the study
