Superintendent employment contracts with school districts shall include standards for termination for cause without further financial obligation if the district is placed on fiscal distress due to superintendent commitments or material misrepresentation of finances, provided all appeals are exhausted

Superintendents must be provided notice of termination reasons, a hearing to explain or rebut those reasons, and a hearing record at district expense before termination by majority board vote

Contract buyout agreements cannot use more than 12 months of state funds to compensate an outgoing superintendent, and such state funds cannot exceed the amount owed under the remainder of the superintendent's contract

State funds for buyout agreements cannot compensate an outgoing superintendent for any term exceeding the remainder of the current fiscal year

School districts may authorize outgoing superintendents to obtain employment as teachers or in other agreed-upon positions within the district without restriction
