Delays implementation deadline from 2021-2022 to 2023-2024 school year for teachers to demonstrate proficiency in scientific reading instruction.

Requires all classroom teachers with elementary education (K-6) or special education (K-12) licenses to demonstrate proficiency in scientific reading instruction knowledge and practices.

Requires all other teachers to demonstrate awareness (rather than proficiency) in scientific reading instruction knowledge and practices.

Teachers who have not demonstrated proficiency by the 2023-2024 school year may be placed in intensive support status under § 6-17-2807 with a professional growth plan to demonstrate proficiency.

New teachers hired in 2023-2024 and subsequent school years must complete scientific reading instruction credential either as a condition of licensure or within one year of employment if already licensed or employed under a waiver.
