Brian Douglas "Doug" Harlan was born July 10, 1956, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and died December 10, 2020.

Harlan served 31 years with the Little Rock Fire Department, rising through the ranks from Firefighter (1983-1990), Fire Apparatus Engineer (1990-1994), Fire Captain (1994-2000), and retiring as Battalion Chief in 2014 after nearly 14 years in that position.

Early in his career, Harlan was recognized for heroic efforts saving a four-year-old girl from a burning second-story apartment, and served as acting Battalion Chief at Little Rock National Airport during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The Senate remembers Harlan's service and dedication to the City of Little Rock and State of Arkansas and extends sincere condolences to his surviving family including his wife of 41 years, Renee' Simpson Harlan, children Jacob and Kara Harlan, and three grandchildren.

A copy of the resolution shall be provided to Harlan's family by the Secretary of the Senate upon adoption.
