Detective Kevin Collins of the Pine Bluff Police Department's violent crime division was killed in the line of duty on October 5, 2020, the first department officer killed in duty since 1985.

Detective Collins was hired by the department in 2015 and was named 2017 Officer of the Year for rescuing a 95-year-old woman from a burning building.

He pursued law enforcement as a lifelong goal, working first at the Department of Correction and Metropolitan Emergency Communication Association before becoming an officer, influenced by his stepfather's service as a captain with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Beyond his police work, Detective Collins served as a security officer at the Pine Bluff campus of New Life Church and participated on a panel for the Domestic Abuse and Violence Awareness Conference at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2019.

The Senate honors Detective Collins' memory, extends condolences to his family, recognizes his contributions to Arkansas and the Pine Bluff community, and directs the Secretary of the Senate to provide a copy of the resolution to his family.
