Both the House of Representatives and the Senate may hire and employ security personnel to maintain peaceful order and provide protection to members and staff during official functions of the General Assembly.

Security personnel designated by either chamber are considered full-time law enforcement officers with the full range of responsibilities and authority of law enforcement officers certified by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training.

The House and Senate may establish their own training and qualification standards for security personnel, and the Commission must provide access to all law enforcement training and certification processes.

Security personnel employed by the General Assembly have statewide jurisdiction while acting within the scope of their employment.

An emergency is declared regarding the safety of General Assembly members, staff, and the public, making the act effective upon gubernatorial approval, expiration of veto period, or veto override.
