House Bill 1597 Summary

• Amends Arkansas Code § 7-6-203(g)(1) to modify how candidates may disburse remaining campaign funds at the conclusion of a campaign

• Replaces "nonprofit organization" with "an entity that is exempt from taxation" under Section 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code

• Expands eligible recipients of campaign funds to include ballot question committees, independent expenditure committees, and political action committees (in addition to existing options of the State Treasurer, political parties, cities, or contributors)

• Updates provisions resulting from Initiated Act 1 of 1990 and Initiated Act 1 of 1996, effective January 1, 2023
