Absentee ballot applications are valid for only one (1) election cycle by default, unless the applicant selects an option to extend for one (1) year.

An election cycle includes any single election and its corresponding runoff election, if any.

County clerks must automatically mail absentee ballots no later than 25 days before each election and no later than 10 days before corresponding runoff elections.

Voters residing in long-term care or residential care facilities or voters with disabilities as defined in § 7-5-311 may have applications valid for one (1) calendar year unless withdrawn.

The Secretary of State must include explanatory language on applications clarifying the default one-election validity period and the optional one-year extension option.
