Senate Resolution 27 honors the memory of Dr. O. Jerome Green, who passed away on April 8, 2024, and was the 45th president of Shorter College in North Little Rock.

Dr. Green held a Bachelor of Arts in English from Miles College, a Master of Arts in journalism from Ohio State University, and a Juris Doctor from the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Under Dr. Green's leadership from 2012 onward, Shorter College achieved record enrollment and graduation numbers, established new academic programs and a STEM Center for Academic Excellence, restored intercollegiate sports, and received full re-accreditation by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools.

Dr. Green was named among Arkansas Life magazine's list of Arkansans of the Year in 2015 for innovation in education and received the HBCU Campaign Fund's Ten Most Dominant HBCU Leaders Award in February 2024.

The Senate expresses sincere condolences to Dr. Green's family, including his wife Linda Haynie Green, M.D., and three children, and directs the Secretary of the Senate to provide a copy of the resolution to his family.
