Food processing plants with slaughterhouses located in first class cities must not operate within 2 miles of churches, public schools, or densely populated residential areas

"Food processing plant" is defined as a commercial operation that processes food for human consumption and distributes to other entities, excluding retail stores, convenience stores, restaurants, delicatessens, and cafeterias

First class cities retain authority to approve or regulate food processing plant operations and determine whether plants would violate the 2-mile distance requirement

Existing food processing plants operating on the effective date of the law are exempt from these location restrictions
