State agency heads may permit public employees to bring infants under 6 months old to work, including biological, adopted, step, and foster children

Agencies permitting infant attendance may establish internal policies covering appropriate work environments, employee performance standards, and safety guidelines

"Public employee" is defined as any employee of a state department, agency, board, commission, office, or other state authority

The act does not prohibit agencies from also allowing employees to bring children 6 months or older to the workplace

Legislative intent is to increase public employee retention by accommodating parents during the first 6 months of a child's life
