Newly elected or appointed sheriffs must file documentation with the county clerk within 10 days showing their law enforcement training status, including Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy certification, eligibility under § 12-9-112, or acknowledgment of lacking required training/experience

Sheriffs without required law enforcement training or experience will have their salary set at the statutory minimum as determined by the quorum court

County clerks must provide copies of sheriff training documentation to the quorum court before the sheriff takes office

Sheriffs who later obtain required training may file updated documentation with the county clerk, which the quorum court may consider when adjusting compensation
