All Arkansas public schools must administer the Arkansas Prevention Needs Assessment Survey annually beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, targeting students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12

The survey focuses on alcohol, tobacco, drug use, mental health, academic failure, and violence to help schools and communities improve student outcomes

Parents and legal guardians must receive written notification before the survey and may opt their child out by providing written notice to the school district

The Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health of the Department of Human Services will maintain the survey, provide technical assistance, and report previous year's results to legislative leadership and relevant committee chairs

Survey administration is contingent on available federal funding; if federal funds are insufficient, the survey requirement is waived
