Arkansas House Resolution honoring Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., founded in 1913 by 22 women at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

On March 3, 1913, the newly founded sorority performed its first public act of service by marching in cap and gown in the Woman Suffrage Procession down Pennsylvania Avenue, despite opposition to African American women participating.

The 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession helped solidify passage of the Nineteenth Amendment seven years later, granting women the right to vote.

Delta Sigma Theta is now the largest African American Greek-letter sorority in the world, with over 350,000 members and more than 1,000 chapters globally.

On March 3, 2013, several thousand members commemorated the centennial anniversary by recreating the original 5,000-person march down Pennsylvania Avenue.
