Smith serves Cleburne County, one of Arkansas's busiest counties for game wardens during hunting seasons, and assists neighboring counties with anti-poaching efforts

Community engagement activities include hunting and boating education classes, high school trap tournaments, the annual Little Red River fishing derby, elementary school presentations, Youth Shooting Sports Program, and "Shop with a Cop" for underprivileged youth

Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Williams Baptist University and began turkey hunting at age six
