Public schools and open-enrollment charter schools may adopt policies to employ or accept volunteer school chaplains to provide support, services, and programs for students, staff, and parents

Parental consent is required before any student can participate in chaplain-provided services; consent forms must allow parents to select from available chaplains and list each chaplain's religious affiliation

Schools must publish a list of all school chaplains and their religious affiliations on the school website and notify all parents of available chaplain services

Chaplains must pass statewide and nationwide criminal background checks (including fingerprinting) and Child Maltreatment Central Registry checks at the school's expense before accessing school grounds or having contact with students

Schools are prohibited from employing or accepting as volunteers any chaplain required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration Act of 1997
