Minors (under 18) must be given the opportunity to consult with a parent or legal guardian in person, by phone, or video conference before custodial interrogation or waiving Miranda rights

The right to parental consultation cannot be waived by the minor

Statements obtained in violation of this requirement are inadmissible in delinquency or criminal proceedings unless prosecutors prove by clear and convincing evidence the statement was made knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily

Exception allows statements to be admitted if law enforcement reasonably believes information is necessary to protect another person from an imminent threat to life, and questions are limited to that purpose
