Minors under 18 must be given the opportunity to consult with a parent or legal guardian (in person, by phone, or video) before any custodial interrogation or before waiving their rights against self-incrimination and to an attorney

The minor's right to parental consultation cannot be waived by the minor

Statements obtained in violation of these requirements are inadmissible in delinquency or criminal proceedings unless the prosecutor proves by clear and convincing evidence the statement was made knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily

Exception allows statements to be admitted if law enforcement reasonably believed the information was necessary to protect another person from an imminent threat to life and limited questions accordingly
