Arkansas Senate resolution commending Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for 118 years of service and leadership in communities

Alpha Phi Alpha was founded December 4, 1906, at Cornell University as the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans

The fraternity has grown to nearly 800 chapters with 200,000 members across the United States, Canada, Caribbean islands, Africa, West Indies, Europe, and Asia

Notable members include Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., W.E.B. DuBois, Thurgood Marshall, Duke Ellington, and Jesse Owens; the fraternity was responsible for the MLK Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Chapters have served Arkansas communities and campuses since 1926, with members including current and former state legislators, mayors, and university leaders
